The most quietly soothing Christmas song, and also the most upbeat and happy Christmas song.

My all time favorite is Carol of the Bells.
The most quiet would probably be Away in a Manger, and the most upbeat is a tough one, there are quite a few that could fit the bill.

Carole of the Bells...It makes me warm all over. The family sing-along in our house to get everyone in the mood is The 12 Days of Christmas. Need to break some of the tension? Try Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer. That's our LOL song.

I would add a 3rd category - religous song...
1. Soothing has to be HAVE YOURSELF..., especially the reassuring line "Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow".
2. Upbeat would be that great Roni Spector oldie CHRISTMAS (BABY PLEASE COME HOME). The "Wall of Sound" never sounded better, and Letterman has her on every year to rock the house.
3. SILENT NIGHT is my favorite religious carol. 3/4 time, a slow soothing waltz that matches its lyrics perfectly.

Upbeat & happy - gotta be Santa Claus is Coming to Town, favourite version by Nat King Cole.
The oldies are the best!

"Blue Christmas" by Elvis. It brings back a lot of memories of family Christmas. It just wasn't Christmas without my grandma playing good ole Elvis.

"The 12 Pains of Christmas". I don't know who sings it but it cracks me up every time. Love it.
