I own an Astra 98' with 1.6i engine that has 75 hp. A friend of mine has a VW Golf that has 1.3i engine and also 75 hp. I was thinking that as mine has 300 cc more, it should have at least 10 hp more!? Is there any way, another air intake system, different sparks or something like that to give me a few hp more? Thanks!

stock replacement K&N air filter might get you 1 or 1 1/2 more hp. this is cheap and easy to do. if you have the money put in a turbo kit. changing the exhaust will just make it louder. keep in mind these are econemy cars.

The guy who said changing exhaust just makes it louder is wrong. If you don't believe me, look at FlowMasters! They make mondo power, but I don't think that they'd be available for your car. But yes, a more free flowing exhaust system will definetely add some power, but for much less, a K&N air filter will do the same. Most can be found for under $50. If you wanna gain some more, try a Cold-Air Intake Kit, also by K&N. If you have high mileage, and you drive the car really hard, a turbo/super charger is NOT the way to go. You can cause some serious damage, by overtaxing the engine, and putting too much wear on it. Nitrous Oxide, while decently priced, can also cause too much wear to your engine. If you have low miles on the car, and you don't drive it excessively hard, I would suggest an electric supercharger, called an e-RAM.

It is hard to start with a 9 year old engine and pump it up with out rebuilding it. Nitrious Oxide is the easiest way yo dust off the golf.

you should have an sport air filter, sport exsost system and new spark plugs. You shoul gain 5-15 hp depending on componenets you install. another way is cylinder head tuning and chip replacement but this is more expensive.
