Fills in the cracks between the staves on a wooden boat (much better than oakum)...also "Tars" are necessary to handle the rigging and sail the boat.

Necessary to move very big code executables around the place.I'm being serious. We use Tar all the time to "tar" up code to FTP to a different server.

To put it simply, it's to fill the cracks of the road know as a sealent. And it can make driveways like my uncle did for us.
