I believe this type is called the ACTIVE battle system. It is used in the new Final Fantasy XII game instead of the turn based battle system. I personally prefer the active battle because nobody takes turns in a real battle.- whoever can hit the fastest, strongest and hardest wins ;)

The second is called both Active or Real Time. Oh and to those talking about Zelda like games such as Oblivion or Kingdom Hearts there is one old-fashioned that uses Active. Star Ocean is an old style RPG that uses the Active Battle System.

First type is "turn-based RPG"--like the early Final Fantasy games, Knights of the Old Republic...second type is "action RPG"--like Dungeon Siege, Diablo II, Oblivion...hope that helps!

The answer to this question is quite easy to answer. The second type of RPG YOU want to know is ACTION RPG.
For example, if you've played Kingdom Hearts, you would be playing an Action RPG.

First is Turn-based battle system and the second is called Real-time battle system. At least that's what I've always been told.

First person action or shooter. Unless it's turned based it's not really considered an RPG. Can you give an example of a game you're talking about?
