But was it deliberate?

A lot of people had their jobs riding on a successful bid, so why not "go low", win the deal, then tell the public the true costs later on?

Well, duh!

Fancy the government forgetting VAT - something that is paid on EVERYTHING!

If I told my husband that I was going to spend £100 on Christmas presents but the bill actually came to £300 he would kill me. Obviously it would not be my fault that I forgot Great Aunt Ethel when doing my pricings, and had forgotten to include wrapping paper, Christmas Cards, the petrol to go shopping, the parking fees, lunch while out - and the VAT on everything!

Mind you, the money does not matter - it's not my problem as it comes out of my husband's bank account - just like it is not the government's problem where the money comes from as they will not go bankrupt - the country can pay, out of taxation!

If the Millennium Dome and all the "New Labour" Fiascos are anything to go by , the 2012 Olympics will be the biggest , most costly Balls Up in the History of Great Britain , the game is already well under way ,-- "Forgot about V A T ,??? This is only the begining, the cost will soar to Astronomical Heights , It is beyond belief that such a Bunch of Prats are now embarked on "Money No Object" Spree , they have not the slightest idea of Commercial Reality , the costs will escalate to Massive inflation of the original unrealistic estimate ,Whilst Hospitals continue to close.Services Deteriorate at alarming speeds. Every single project which they undertake always Spirals Months and Years over the promised Cost and Completion date. The "Idiots" in charge of this debacle continue to Gabble their Way through T V and Media Interviews Lying and pushing out Bullshit which even the simplest of minds can see through, They care not a Jot , knowing that there will be no "Comeback" - Strutting and Prancing , treating the Public , the people that have Voted them into Office , as Sub-Normal .Half-Wits whilst they collect their Massive Undeserved ,Salaries , Gigantic Pensions , Allowances and Bloody ridiculas "Perks" , waiting for their Nighthoods , and Civic Awards for a "Job Well Done" , whilst the rest of us are Taxed out of existence to pay for never ending Deteriation and Damage to our country - by the Biggest Bunch of Quango , Politically Correct, Ridden Shower of Bastards ever to hold office as a Government of Great Britain == NEW LABOUR "FIDDLES " WHILST GREAT BRITAIN FALLS INTO TOTAL DISASTER"

Not in the least, In fact I would expect anything this shower of cowboys got involved with, to cost at least 3 times the original estimate. Primary school children would have made a better job of costings 2.5 billion anybody take a bet that the overall cost will come in at under 10? Deliberate No Incompetence yes

It sounds as if will be another major success story like the Millennium Dome project.
Why should our stupid politicians worry about cost when they can increase the London council taxes a bit more or extend it to the whole country.
The next government can blame the last and it all rolls on.
No wonder politicians are held in such low regard and we have so few people who wish to vote. Pigs at the trough.

Is anyone really surprised that the Muppet's who are running our country(into the ground) got it wrong. As I said in a previous answer they couldn't run a tap! 'CLAIRE B' get real, it's Londoner's council tax which will go up far beyond the 40 pence a week as promised by Liar Livingstone. Remember it's our Dear Leader Tony who says the whole country will benefit so who are you to contradict a man of such integrity?.

Yes, it was probably deliberate. They must have known about the VAT!

I think they did it to increase the chances of London getting the Games, knowing that the taxpayer and the London rates payers would have to make good any deficit
