If you measure from the middle to one end, it's exactly twice that length.

Probably the same sort of answer as "how many beans make five". Depends on the string. If you have 3 ply string, unwound it is going to be longer than 2 ply string unwound , but who wants to sit about unwinding string. What do you want the string for? Strong string or weak string or string that's a bit of a wimp. Overall in a hundred years time there will be no string, just plastic ties, so the question will be academic anyway.

ah, a very good question indeed! the answer lies in the dark old days when string was not string as we know it now, but tiny particles of molucles. As string can be cut into any length, to find the absolute length we must first find the size of the molucles it is made of, and then times that by however long you cut the string minus the orignal molucle length:
S = M into L - orignal length

it can be as long as you want it to be. you decide how long it is because you can cut it wherever. or if you just have like a ball of yarn and you dont cut it, it's as long as the manufacturers created it. it just depends lol.

I've measured mine, and it's umpteen feet long. About three hundred and four times that, in millimetres.
