I believe the Chinese government actually tried to install a eight day week. An other answerer said that would mess up the months and seasons, but that's nonsense, there would just be less weeks in a month, season or year; no problem there. But I did like the Uranusday idea, although that would probably give a lot of people an extra reason to look at other people's bottom ^_^.

Problem is that the eight day week in China didn't work, naturally people seem to strive with a seven day week. The eight day week would either result in an extra work day, which would tire people out, I think, or in an extra free day, which would effect the economy quite a bit. There must be a kind of balance between free time and work time (earning money and spending it), and it doesn't work too well for a whole society to change that balance with an extra weekday. On the other hand, doctors, nurses and policemen work with weird shifts too, and they seem to handle it pretty well on the whole

There should be only one extra day a month,, not every week,,,
It should be on last day of month , And should be called Moonday , to coinside with the full moon,, On this day everyone can spend the day mooning whomever they like without having to face any consequences

Well, an 8 day week would sorely screw up the calendar system we have in place. The months would have to be shortened, or perhaps the year extended, in which case, the cycle of the seasons would be so messed up that eventually, July would fall in the middle of winter.

As for what to name the 8th day, I'd have to follow the pattern already in place and name it after the planet discovered right after Saturn. The days of week are named after seven astronomical bodies known in ancient times.

Sunday=Sun's day
Monday=Moon's day
Tuesday=Mars' day (the Nordic equivalent of Mars, Tyr, is used)
Wednesday=Mercury's day (Nordic equivalent is Wodin)
Tuesday=Jupiter's day (Nordic equivalent is Thor)
Friday=Venus' Day (Nordic equivalent is Frigga)
Saturday=Saturn's Day
Uranoday=Uranus' Day

Yet another reason to stick with the 7 day week, eh? ;)

As long as the eighth day was for people to just chill out that would be great, I'd call it Blissday, the one day of the week were people didn't have to worry about anything and just do what they want to do.

Every one would complain because they'd all have to wait longer for payday to come round whether it be weekly or monthly, no matter what you call the day!

I'd call it DayOff - and, as long as it was a day off from work, I wouldn't mind having an eight day week!

Great idea. OTHERDAY... It could be used to catch up on all the things left over that week. Could be leisure or work related.
HMMMMMM. I think I will start my new calendar business soon.
