The answer is...or what.. People like myself, wish to maintain our privacy, hence my screen name "Private Person". I am just having fun, interacting with folks, getting inspired, etc.. I have no sinister motives, just do not want ot be stalked by some freak show out there, it is not fear, it is called taking care of my self. You might not like this either, but I also have a concealed-carry license, and exercise that right, for my safety and protection. It is a insane world we live in today, very unfortunately, if you do not protect your privacy, it might cost you your job, or be very detrimental in various other ways.

1) People get sick of their real name. (I know I do!)

2) Sometimes, people need a name that better depicts their personalities. It's impossible to determine what personality a child will have when they're born, so lots of people have names that don't "fit" so they seek to rectify the situation.

3) Many predators out there can do a lot by simply knowing someone's real name, such as find a address, phone number, place of employment, bank, social security number, etc.

4) It helps weed out junk mail. Every time I get hit with the old "money scam" e-mail, the first heads-up I get is that they refer to me by my internet name, Avie. No one who has legit business with me refers to me by that name.

So, it's really not fear--it's wisdom.

Giving an alias name is the wise thing to do,,, Too many crazies on the internet,,,,And most likely,, most people on internet start out with some kind of alias,at least until they feel safe and comfortable with who they are with,, Even then you must use great caution,,,

People are afraid of psychopaths, and i think we all want to protect ourselves. Childish no. Children are often the ones to be harmed by giving away information.

Not at all; my experiences online have conviinced me I have greatly overestimated the humanity of the 'human' race. Another Jeffrey Dahlmer waits out there somewhere.

I don't need to give crazy people my real name. Same reason I don't run around on the street telling every stranger my name.
