I am looking for some practical means of differenciating the American people from the American government in the world scene. I, as most real Americans, am tired of being treated like I want to go slaughter the muslims and steal their oil or that I give a crap wether or not the rest of the world eats or starves. But how do we Americans convince the world that the American government does not in any way represent the American people.

You don't (and can't) convince the world... because people will always have their own opinions and takes on the situation and you, unfortunately, can do very little to change that.

That's my experience as a Jew (and Israeli)
I think you have to learn to live with the pain and stop caring what other people think of you, because people will always put labels on each other. It's their way of making 'sense' of the world around them...

Our government is there through elections by the American people. So it does represent us.

Who says we are to kill the Muslims? It's the terrorists that we need gone. Not all Muslims are terrorists. And not all terrorists are Muslims.

I do give a 'crap' if the rest of the world eats or starves!!! Hell, look at the USA. Millions of people are homeless, starving, living in boxes in alleys and run down buildings. It is hard for me to figure out how we can feed the world if we can't feed our own people. I'll give you that, but while we are feeding one nation, we should also be feeding others. We are the richest country, aren't we?

I vote every election. Sometimes my 'guy' gets the seat and sometimes he doesn't. But I don't stop there. I write to my senator and mayor and governor and state rep a few times throughout their terms because as an American I have the right to voice my opinion and thoughts. We the people put these people in office. Sadly, I think less than half of Americans vote. That's the problem. We have to educate everyone on how important elections are. But we can't stop just after election day. We have to talk with our govt all year long.

You should get rid of the people who are ruing your reputation as american nation. By letting them controll you and start wars towards other nations, is what makes the rest of the world think that that`s the way you appear to be all of you

The American government DOES represent you, or at least the majority of you. YOU VOTED FOR THEM. Choose more carefully next time.
