It means "raise to the power" - (how times you want multiply a number by itself) It has the same function as writing a superscript number afterwards.

E.g., x^2=x*x is x "squared"
x^3 = x*x*x is x "cubed"
x^4 = x*x*x*x is x "to the fourth"

If you are trying to ask what a certain button marked with that symbol means, it depends on what calculator you have. In some calculators, it means "move up one entity in the stack". In others, it may mean "to the power of". I would suggest typing in the brand and model number into google and find the instructions.

It's the symbol of the exponentiation. For example, 2^3 is the same as "2 to the 3rd power", which turns out to be 8.

It means 'to the power of". So if you wanted to say 10 to the power of 5 ( i.e., 10 multiplied by itself 5 times , or 10*10*10*10*10) we would press 10, then press ^ , then press 5, and the = and the answer would be 100000.
