If I understand correctly, you want to capture the image from an .avi file.

You don't need any fancy program to do this.

1. Play this .avi clip with window media player.
2. Pause the clip to the frame you want to capture
3. Press button Print screen on your keyboard. (when you press printscreen on your keyboard, an image of what you seing on your screen will save in clipboard.)
4. Open Paint (start, accessory, Paint)
5. Click Edit, paste. An image of the whole screen will appear.
6. You can select the area of the image, crop it, and save it.

The whole process seem long, but it's very basic and simple.

hope this help

Do you have access to MATLAB? The function "aviread" could be used to read the avi which stores the movie in the form of an array. Each element of the array represents a frame, which may be converted to an image using "frame2im" and then stored on disk using "imwrite". Or, you can use the Windows Movie Maker to split the video clip
