Does "texter" to mean "writer or sender" exist in English?

Yes. It means that the Malaysian police are searching for someone who has been sending text messages that were a hoax.

I do not think it is correct English grammar, but the gist of it tells me that the person being hunted has sent more than one hoax text. They are using the word 'text' as a singular, and implying that 'texter' is plural, i.e. 'More than one'. Hope this helps you. Have a good day!

... and to add to the last but one poster, 'text' refers to written language generally, but in this instance the context makes clear that what is meant is that someone sent text messages on a computer or mobile phone.
