Snoring can be a symptom of a very serious disorder called sleep apnea, which can, if untreated, lead to heart damage and even death. If other people complain that you snore very loudly, especially if they comment that sometimes you stop breathing for a moment and then start breathing again with a huge snort, you really must go to a sleep clinic for a diagnosis. If you snore softly once in a while, then this is probably not apnea, but if you shake the house, snore like a bear, and drive your spouse to the guest bedroom, then apnea is a distinct probability. It sounds like your boyfriend is in the latter category and needs medical evaluation NOW.

Apnea is usually treated with the use of a device called a CPAP. He can't just buy one of these - they are sold only on prescription, as the pressure needs to be adjusted to his individual needs, with too high pressure being as dangerous as too low. CPAP stops snoring 100% and usually makes the patient feel generally more energetic and alert during the day as well.

Please try to get him to go to a sleep clinic right away. They usually have a long waiting list, and it's important to get the process started ASAP. It usually requires a referral from a primary care doctor.

Good luck - be patient but firm with him - not treating this could damage his health very badly. It will not get better on its own

Yes, but there are solutions. (By the way - did you mean the "wrath" of snorers like snorers who get enraged with you? or like snorers who make you enraged??) Anyway... 1. Change their position while they're sleeping 2. Make them take a nasal decongestant before sleep 3. Make sure they don't have sleep apnea (serious health issue) 4. Alcohol makes a huge difference. My husband's snoring went away when he stopped drinking and I have since learned that is a big factor in snoring. Hope this helps!

There are many reasons for snoring . Some can be easily fixed, others can require surgery. I am a very heavy snorer , the solution we found with my girlfriend is the the following: she stays in my room, do whatever we have to . Then when I fall asleep she moves to her room.
Check with your doctor or pharmacist there is a lot of stuff you can try.
Right now there is some kind of apparatus that was offered to me by my cardiologist , but with a price tag of $3000 ., we decided to stick to the 2 bedrooms arrangement.

Sure!
This one worked for me. I am a snorer LOL and did this, and worked out.

Put a tennis ball on the back of your boyfriend, so that when he sleeps he won't be belly up. Being belly up makes you snore because there's not enough air entering the laringhe.

If your boyfriend sleeps sideways he won't snore and you both will be safe ^_^

As a person ages we gain weight. Ladies tend to gain in the hips and their mid section and men pack it on around the neck. That's why older men tend to snore alot more than their younger counterparts.

So, what does the boyfriend have to do?
1. He could lose weight.
2. He could use nasal strips.
3. He could have his adenoids removed.
4. He could adjust his sleeping position in bed.
5. He could sleep on the couch!

Otherwise...you may have to invest in some good earplugs! Good luck!!! ( BTW - 15 years I've had a seperate bedroom from my wife because of my snoring - on the plus side - my bedroom isn't pink! Cheers )

do u know the effect of snoring?
it may affect his funtion in long run.Weight reduction

Avoidance of alcoholic beverages, especially before retiring

Nasal CPAP, in which an appliance forces air at positive pressure into the patient's airway during sleep.

For many patients, this works extremely well and invasive procedures can be avoided. However, many patients cannot tolerate it and seek other treatments.

If a patient cannot tolerate the various masks used with nasal CPAP, a trial using nasal pillows is suggested. For many patients, this seems to be much more comfortable than the masks.

Occasionally, for effective use of nasal CPAP and to improve the nasal airways, surgical straightening of the septum (middle structure) of the nose is necessary.

If nasal dryness and/or bleeding occur with the use of nasal CPAP, applying saline nasal gel inthe nostrils prior to using the device may prevent these problems..

Diathermy palatal reduction (office procedure effective for both snoring and mild-to-moderate sleep apnea)

Surgically straightening the septum (middle part) of the nose. This usually works well for snoring, and it may be part of the recommended treatment for sleep apnea. Also, it may help the patient better tolerate nasal CPAP.

Removing the tonsils and/or adenoids if enlarged

Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (removing the uvula and part of the palate, or back part of the roof of the mouth)

Other surgical procedures on the back portion (base) of tongue or through the neck

"Snoreplasty" or injection of sclerosing agents into the palate (for snoring only)

Implants of struts into soft palate; Pillar™ palatal implants

Laser palatal reduction (for snoring only)

Various dental devices or major surgery on the jaw bones (usually for snoring only)

One method of treatment is not the answer for all patients with snoring and/or sleep apnea, and more than one treatment modality may be required.

these tretments are costlyandtime consuming...easy way is change ur boy friend...joke..

I feel for you!
My hubby snores too and it drives me up the wall!

Sometimes turning him on his side to sleep stops the snoring. Also, if he smokes you can try to get him to quit. That can stop the snoring.

Otherwise, I will read the answers to this question because I need to know aswell.

Or there is always the couch................

Snoring keeps you awake all night!right??
Make your boyfriend work up a sweat, good exercise prevents snoring to a certain extent.
OR
When he snores, just give him a little whack!!
That should solve the problem

Try to consult a med specialist with regards to snoring. Other people snore because they have hypertrophied (enlarged) tonsils.
