this question was prompted by an answer someone gave me to another question where they stated that everything has limits over time so the subconscious mind must have too...

we know that none of us use our brain capacity to the full...we use surprisingly little of it so who is to say that if we used it to the max that it wouldnt be like unlocking another dimension to our minds....and so on and that actually the brains capacity could be endless...but we dont know it because we dont use it...???

just as a point of interest...many people for instance with split personalities, and other supposed disorders, etc are often highly intelligent and must use up a good amount of brain power...who knows what can happen when we think differently...or our brain goes down a path...do our brains(especially the subconscious) have limits or not???...;0)

world is full of mysteries..many uncovered & many other not yet touched..why do we call mathematician & inventors crazy..cause they surpass the limitations of knowledge & go on unveiling astonishng facts & methods...sometimes works ,other times not....its depends wats on one's mind...
all extremes has side effect....be it good or bad...seen einstein he looks so lost & maniac..cause his mind rules...one's vision can limit minds thought...ur view triggers the mind...& ofcourse its always true that mind has no limits, u see & if u set ur mind to it..it will get u crazy to find more & more...its addictive ...
some succeed some dont...& thoughts with right actions can make impossible possible
limitation occurs when one gives up or is outta sources
else all goes forever....& one thought leads to another & another...

No - your memory capacity doesn't dictate where your brain can go or how far it can think. It's rather like saying, 'does my multi-purpose vehicle have limits?' - yes, there are limits to how much will fit in it, but the distance you can go is only limited by the places there are, so, as the universe is infinite...

And I suspect the capacity would also be limitless within the bounds of a lifetime - after all, given enough prompting you could probably remember everything you've ever done.

'It's a fact that travel broadens the mind, if you do it on a horse, it broadens the bottom too' (exerpt - 'Guilt and Gingerbread')

I'm quite sure there are parts of the brain that we do not use, nor have the ability to use. Perhaps evolution has something to do with this!
However, certain drugs, LSD for example, have been known to unlock certain areas of the mind. LSD fools your mind into being able to decipher everyday objects into something completely different. A different view, if you will.
LSD opens doors that some say should remain closed. I am neither condoning drug use nor suggesting you try and 'open' your mind this way. Just an example.
I don't suppose there is a limit on mind capacity, but I do believe that we act as our own 'secretaries' and file stuff away that we may no longer need. Hypnotism and LSD are two examples of ways to retrieve or discover 'new' and 'old' files(experiences).

Don't really know. There was a guy on TV a few weeks back who's a 'Savant' (likely wrongly spelt!) who has read every book in a library (American, and I forget which one), and who can quote any page in ANY book word for word.

However, he hasn't the ability to process and make use of this information ~ and likely never will have. However, you never know what's around the next corner......

Some drug or the other could just 'change' things.......

'Never say Never,' as my Grandmother used to say.

Incidentally: I recently attended a lecture given by a psychiatrist who asked the audience this: 'If someone with a split personality was wired up to a lie detector, and was asked if he was Napoleon, and he answered Yes, would the lie detector be wrong'?

[ If needs be, read that again to yourself and think about it. You might even like to read it out loud too! ]

for me the answer is simple, the only limits your mind has are the ones you yourself put on it...either through conditioning or ignorance (that not you personally, rather all people).a bit like is the glass half full or half empty. It all depends on how you view things and the attitude you take on-board. I always used to think of myself as a very dull person, my mind was shut to others ideas and so i never seemed to grow as such. I was too shy to ask questions.Until someone asked me one day why do children always ask why? As I heard myself answer that they want to learn and grow, it became obvious to me that that was my problem, I couldn't grow without learning, and I couldn't learn without asking. Now sometimes I amaze even myself because the more I stimulate my mind the more I seem to know.......like getting answers from a collective mind somewhere out there .......some of the answers or bits of information i give come out of left field but seem to be right on the money.Remain open to the many possibilities and who knows how far the mind Will progress

I believe the imagination is endless. The brain itself has limits. It can't fly for example. It can't calculate a million problems at once like a computer. But the mind, the mind can travel to infinity and back. One might say that's not possible because infinity never ends. I say that person has never given it a try for themselves. Logic and the imagination are most likely endless.

That 5 percent of the brain being used idea is a bit of a myth. It is a reflection of westerners obsession with regulation and control. We are uncomfortable with anything that escapes us.
It is true that the unconscious mind is bigger than the conscious mind (Freud compared it quite aptly to an iceberg - with most of it under water). However, that doesn't mean that the subconscious is simply waited to be used as a conscious faculty. Exploring the subconscious is not about controlling it. It is about discovering more about ourselves, and learning to live in harmony with who we truly are. And it is certainly not about becoming super-calculators or developing psychic powers.

The mind has limits. Sanity is like the edges of the paper you write on. Slip off and it is the abyss. The body is a bad design for the mind (i think). That's why there is so much stress in the world. Talking is a waste of energy. Whereas writing can achieve a lot more and you won't be half as tired after all is said on paper ;-)

i believe that the mind only has the limit that we place on it.
what the mind can conceive, it can achieve.
provided that we are willing to put in the effort and pay the price.
define limits??? everthing has a limit, just because you haven't reached it doesn't mean that it isn't there.
try lifting youself up using your brain power,or try remembering the whole encyclopedia, so that if anyone asks you anything you can quote it ad verbatim.
have you been to the end of the solar system???
is there a limit???
God bless,
gabe

There is no known answer to your question at this time..experts estimate we use approximately 1% of our brains capabilities..take in to account this applies to people we regard as at genius level, and the possibilities if we could use even 25%; are endless..
