Does this headline get the message across to native speakers of English?"Malaysian police hunt hoax texter".

Is it right to make "texter" to mean "the one who wrote a text"? For me it is terrible English. What do you think?

Although it is not correct English grammar. . . . . unfortunately most of us are probably used to people using incorrect English grammar by now. With that said .....yes, it is understandable.

Remember headlines are not usually good examples of perfect English.
