1) Rectangular - This would be the best seeing as there's more surface area and much more swimming space. You can have all kinds of fish in this type of aquarium

2) Hexagonal + Octagonal - these are taller than most, so it makes it hard to clean the gravel or re-arrange without soaking your entire arm. depending on the size of the tank you can have a few fish. If small then a few shrimp, or a Betta, or a small school of neons. If big, then you can have a bit more variety, but not too many fish.

4) Fish Bowl - Not suited for ANY type of fish. This type of "aquarium" is cruel and unnecessary . It requires water changes every day, there is no room for a heater, filter, etc. You wouldn't have stable parameters, which would mean that more fish would die. But if low on budget/space, then you can get these, but only a betta would be able to live in it

5) Square - Like the rectangle, it has more surface area, which is good. The bad thing though is that you would need alot of space to fit this one in a house, as the bigger tank you get, the wider and taller it is. Can have a variety of fish in it

6) Triangular - This is ideal for those people who don't have space, so they can put this in a corner somewhere. However, you have to be careful otherwise you'll frequently hit yourself on the side of one of these aquariums. Can hold a wide variety of fish.

Rectangular is the best because there is more room for the fish and less seams. Most accessories are made for rectangular tanks. Hex and Oct tanks are made for looks more than fish in mind. They look neat and people buy them. They inturn have more problems with temperature, algae, and fish growth. The bowls are generally too small for anything and they lose heat quickly, they do not promote proper water changes and filtration (bad fish health care). Triangular would fit into the Hex and Oct category that they are made for looks and the 3 points carry more pressure than the other models (more leaks) The square would also be a good shape in that it has all the characteristics of rectangular and a larger water volume, however square tanks are usually more expensive for the same size than rectangular, and stands etc are hard to find. depending on the fish you have a square may be better than a retangular, but I would always suggest the rectangular.

well more surface area is better so the rectangular is best i dont like bowls because they dont have a cover and my fish jumped out of a bowl and died and it seems like the hezagonal and octagonal would be hard to clean because its tall and not wide so you would probably soak your arm is a decent sized one. For triangular i wouldnt get that cause i would always be hitting my arm on the corner on accident so id say rectangle or square is best

All fish are suited to a rectangle tank best. The others are just for fancy purposes and not an ideal for all fishes.

it really all depends on the fish and how big they grow for example Oscars need width to swim around and not hieght so a Octagon wil not have enough width for it to swim but like I said it really depends on the fish

To me it comes down to space and personal preference.
