Christmas just seemed so magical when you were a kid.......
There seemed to be more decorations in the house - not just a tree and a garland on the fire. Your pile of prezzies was just massive! Everybody was happy and jovial during the get together at your nans house - cousins, aunts, uncles the whole family used to be there. You always thought you look a million dollars in your new clothes, after dinner all the adults would have a few drinks then the music would be higher up and they'd all be dancing and singing!!!! - what a great day it would be!!!!
These days Christmas is not the same - our family has broken up a bit -mum and dad divorced - aunts and uncles have divorced, cousins have grown up and have their own families - worst of all my nan has passed away.
The good thing now is I have a child of my own, we do the whole Christmas thing - go to my mums for dinner have drinks, dance sing, play games - now I make Christmas great for my kid as my parents did for me.......
Times change.......but the memories all remain......I still love Christmas and I am also counting down the days!!

I can't remember specific years but I always remember going out carol singing when it was freezing cold then coming in and warming up with big mugs of hot chocolate.
My mum and dad always used to take us to a pantomime in the next town to ours so we always used to go on the bus and count how many christmas trees we could see.
Christmas games like 'eat the chocolate' or 'the ministers cat'
And why is it that the chocolates in a box of Milk Tray were so much bigger then??
Its not the big things I remember, its the little bits that make things so special.
I've got 4 children now and I absolutely love Christmas. I always get my dad to dress up as santa on christmas eve and come down the garden path, into the house and give them a little present each before they go to bed!

My best was when I received NOTHING on my list.
I hate Christmas lists, they are stupid and those buying off them have no brain of their own!!
Every year I am asked to make a list ( I hate doing it and since then have stopped giving people one ) Finally one year I did not get what was on my list!! The gifts I had received were from the heart of those giving them. They had to think and inturn took action. I wish people would take a step back and see what Christmas truly is about and stop wasting money on all the gift giving!!

The best christmas I remember was 1966. I was 11 and knew I was going to get a NEW bike. Two days before christmas, we had the heaviest snow fall for a long time, so come christmas day, I couldn't go out with my bike. Instead, I rode it around my bedroom and it was about 2 weeks before I could take it out. Happy days!

My sister left england to live in Canada. We all missed her and worried about her in a new country. She and her new husband were hard up and struggling to set up home.We were amazed to recieve a big parcel just before christmas. We waited till christmas morning to open it.There were dozens of tiny presents inside!Every one wrapped beautifully. It was the most exciting time I had had since childhood. Some she had made, some were photos, little free gifts from magazines .The posh ones from the dollar store.Years latter she told me it cost more to post than to fill.
She changed christmas for us.We now buy special little gifts and blow the big flash stuff. You get most things eventually without disguising them as presents.Yes that was the best and most emotional time we missed her of course but she was with us in her wonderful christmas parcel

Every Christmas was memorable and magical until the Christmas after my dad died (I was 7 yrs old), then nothing was the same. Now my daughter is nearly 3 and her Christmas's are the special ones. Just seeing her face and the sparkle in her eyes is so amazing. It doesn't matter what we all get as long as she smiles and she is happy! It's her time now!!!

My best xmas was when I had nagged my mum and dad for a game boy I was about 13 and they had only recently come out. My mum had already got me loads and got my big prezzie so I though I wouldn't get one. On xmas day I opened all my prezzies, no game boy, I was gutted but didn't show it as I had been brought up to be greatfull for everything you have. When I was lying watchin my new mini TV mum said "What's this behind here?" and got two small prezzies from behind one of the chairs. I got up opened the biggest one, dropped it on the floor, flung my arms round my mum and cried. Yes you guessed it I got my Game boy. My mum says to this day that it is one of her most memorable too.

Christmas 2003.
All the family were there - my mum and step-dad, my mum-in-law, our 4 children and my son-in-law.
On Christmas Eve my eldest daughter told me she was pregnant - my first grandchild. I was SOOO happy!
It'll be very different this time. My mum and step-dad died this year. My mum-in-law is now in a nursing home as she has dementia, and she had a stroke this week. We'll visit her
Christmas morning, but she won't recognise us, and she can't speak.
I'm not looking forward to it at all this year. Too many empty chairs.
Sorry to be depressing.
