I am also in my late 60's and just listening to your plea amkes me think that all she needs from you is a big hug, a kiss and being there on her birthday. Which still leaves you with finding a present. How about jigsaws, crosswords or sudoku, a sewing/rug making kit. If she has access to a computer perhaps she would like some sort of games. I play crosswords, sudosku and jigsaws on my PC and the time flies. Maybe she could get on a chatroom and you would never be stuck for trying to stop her being bored.
God bless you both - you sound like a really good person.

Your mum will not expect anything from you she will be more than pleased if you spend time with her. Fill her room with candles, the beautiful smelling ones, and a cosy throw would be nice keep her warm while she is recouperating.

You could get her like a realy comfy blanket, foot massager, pillow, robe, that kind of thing. Do some research and find a movie that might have been a favorite of hers when she was a child or a teen I bet she would realy like that.

Home pampering, get a hairdresser and beauty salon to call.A new dress or take her out in a chair if possible.
Either way, bless her and tell her you love her,the most cheapest ,but the most golden present ever.
