I am writing a script for a Sketch show for my uni work, part of my idea is to satire chavs, but people have told me my characters are to "true to life" and may offend. Does this matter? Do realistic characters take away from the humour?

Any other thoughts as well please!

Again, another disagree here. The closer to real life you get, the funnier it is. I think of Catherine tate's "Am I Bovered?" sketch (wearing a little thin now, but when it was first out was hilarious!) I like this example as I have seen many a pikey/chav just like this character, saying things in EXACTLY the same way! Hilarious!

I disagree with your friends - the truer to life the better, and the more scope for comedy. How on earth can 'true to life' offend, if it's something people know to be true? Sounds like you've got good ideas! Stick to what you find funny. And go easy on the bad language - that might offend, and in my opinion is a lazy way to get laughs.

The best comedy is that which has the ability to offend.

i also disagree with ur friends.. i think the best kind of laughter is when u laugh at life.. at ur self.. with the ppl around u..

its different to laughing AT someone, and i think there can be a fine line between the two.
