I agree.
Love you Live is a great album with covers and songs of their own - excelent version of Fingerprint File and You Can't Always Get What You Want. As a matter of fact, I'm going to put it on right now!

I would argue that they have written many excellent songs since 1963 many of which I still enjoy now 43 years on. I can't agree they've written the best songs in the history of rock music though. The album versions of Led Zeppelins 'Stairway To Heaven' or Pink Floyds 'Another Brick In The Wall' or The Moody Blues 'Question' are in many ways far more superior than the Rolling Stones. That said,my favourite RS tracks revolve around their most prolific songwriting years from around 1964 to 1974 when many of their collaborations would be hit singles. With respect, may I suggest you listen to other rock artists of their generation and have an open mind approach to song-writing? One of my own personal favourite albums still to be released on CD was a Decca album called 'The World Of Progressive Music'. There were many songs on this album from many artists still worthy of a play now and then. Happy listening!

Well, there's always the Beatles! There is also a great catalogue of songs from other English bands like the Who and the Kinks; and don't forget their "heir", Paul Weller - but don't forget too that Dylan's work often translates well to a rock version - eg All Along The Watchtower

Oh, I agree with you on the fact The Rolling Stones have written quite a few memorable songs......but I can't agree with you when you state they have the sole right to have written the BEST songs!!
Look at some great songs the Beatles wrote, or Queen!!
I'm pretty sure those songs, together with the Stones-songs, will withstand the tooth of time!

Yes indeed , they written very good songs.
Having said that , the Beatles are still unsurpassed ( as Fab Four or solo).
It was John and Paul who encouraged Jagger and Richards to pen songs together.

Your an idiot mate, theve written about 10 good tracks which for the length of their career is not very good at all. When you put them next to The Beatles or U2 they are rubbish. I personally do like them but they are nowhere near the best songwriters....Bob Dylan also springs to mind. You need to buy some new records pal.

They have written some great songs, there's no doubt. But ALL the best songs? - I doubt it. Personally I think Tumblin dice is one of the best rock songs ever recorded but it's all down to personal choice.
They wrote some real rubbish too, don't forget the dreadful "Mick Taylor" phase in the '70s.

They wrote some classics sure but they didn't write Born to run, Won't get fooled again, Baba o Reilly, Badlands, Bohemian rhapsody and Waterloo sunset. I have always liked the stones and have seen them live but they most defiantly have not written all the best songs.
