In 2004, Hispanic women had the highest fertility rates, followed by non-Hispanic black women and Asian women. Fertility rates for Hispanic women were about 45 percent higher than those for non-Hispanic black women and Asian women (98 births per 1,000 for Hispanic women versus 67 births per 1,000 for black and Asian women), and more than 60 percent higher than those for women in all other racial and ethnic groups. Non-Hispanic white women and Native American women had the lowest fertility rates (58 and 59 births per 1,000 women, respectively, in 2004).

Notice how quickly a racial egalitarian jumped in with "No. Such-and-such has nothing to do with race." It's pure bullcrap. Most everything that has to do with an organism's structure, needs, behavior and capabilities has to do with race. We pass our characteristics along the stream of time primarily by heredity, secondarily by culture. Our genes still define us, and they still limit us, and as long as we remain "biological," they always will.

Notice, also, that he deliberately confused the question that was asked with a different question. The Asker's question was in regard to the DEGREE to which different races are "reproductive minded," and the racial egalitarian sneakily answered WHETHER different races are so minded. His assertion that the inclination to reproduce, or the rate of childbirth, would be the same for all races given the same environmental conditions is false. In the same environment, different races will have different rates of childbirth.

It would be a strange thing indeed if nature created the races equals, since nature is under no constraint even to attempt to do such a thing. Tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of years of divergent evolution have caused races to acquire different adaptations in form, capacity, and behavior, and the differences have become a part of our gene coding for almost all that we are and all that we do.

My guess is that Blacks have the stronger tendency to demand immediate gratification of every kind, sexual gratification included, as compared with Whites. Asians might be even more self-restrained than Whites are. Most of the brown races would fall between Whites and Blacks on the spectrum of patience.

In reponse to Michael H's answer...

That statistic is ignoring a variety of different factors that come into direct play. Hispanic women may not have easy access to contraceptives and especially not long-term, successive methods (such as the pill) that the wealthier population (such as non-Hispanic whites) normally have. Neither do many of these women have the education concerning these methods. Also, if pregnant, non-Hispanic women not only have better access to abortion clinics but can afford the missed days from work and the costs involved with the surgery. While MOST hispanics are Catholic, that is also another contributing factor. Hispanic women will be more likely than non-Hispanic women to keep the child, regardless of their financial situation because simply put, their heritage and religion teaches these women not only that abortion is a sin, but even the use of contraceptives is a sin! Come on now... it's not as simple as a statistic.

No.

Drive to procreate has nothing to do with 'race', which is essentially a term to denote skin color and physical features, all of which are determined by a small set of biological factors. Beyond these very few sets of genes, all humans are the same.

Drive to procreate is determined by social and environmental factors more than anything else. If you put people of all sorts of ethnicities (better term than race) in the same social and environmental conditions, the rate at which they reproduce would be the same.

This is true whether the subject is human or a mouse, or any animal for that matter.

JenaB6 that is total and utter crap. "Nature" does not make decisions, not through genes or otherwise. Genetic lineage affects only biological structure, whereas the complexities of behavior, ESPECIALLY reproductive behavior are determined by cultural and social participation. Genes give you your penis or vagina, but what you do with has a lot to do with your mother and your girlfriend (not necessarily in that order).

Blacks are programmed for gratification? What, fried chicken and watermelons give them a sugar rush? So then they go and screw? That's one of the most butt-headed, racist things I've ever heard.

"Brown" races? Are you JOKING? Do you mean Persians, Indians, Pakistanis, Malaysians, Native Americans, Aboriginals, Inuits, Iraqis, Greeks, Turks, or my neighbor downstairs? I think what you're really trying to say politely is "sand n****r", aren't you?

Asker: The first answer seems most reasonable here, certainly the one which I concur with.

Regardless of race, more poverty pretty much equals more children. The more and more affluent people get, the fewer and fewer children they have. You can look at this within subsets of industrial societies, or within the world more generally.

Thanks to the fact that people who are racialized are generally suffering more poverty, people often assume that it's a racial characteristic.

Certain stereotypes aside, not that has been independently verified. Quite frankly I don't know how you'd verify it anyway, since the first thing you'd have to do would be to define 'race.'
