Imagine this: someone very close to you is about to gain a position of influence. A well-received fortune teller sought you out to tell you about a vision she saw, a vision in which this person that is about to gain a position of influence will cause a calamity that will bring pain and suffering for many years. She tells you that she see you doing one of two things:
1) you will ignore this warning and do nothing; allowing your loved one to do what he/she is destined to do, knowing it may cause you or people you care about great pain. By doing this you will be able to go home and live your life, or
2) you can stop this person, even if it means killing him/her. Killing such an important person with premeditation will mean prison and even possibly the death sentence, and you will lose your livelihood, your family, your friends; but you will be able to rest easy knowing you saved thousands--if not millions-- of lives.

Given the two choices, what would you do and why?

I'm working on a premise for a new book. I'm trying to figure out if it is a good one or not. Thanks for your help!

I would join up with a band of fierce Viking warriors to stave of disaster when it struck.

That would be an easier question if we knew for sure this soothsayer wasn't a psychopath who gets off on making other people kill people they love.
Also you're acting like there are only two choices, you could simply talk to the person and tell them not to do anything that might jeopardize millions of lives.
Personally, I wouldn't have taken the the fortune-teller's warning very seriously; I may have kept an eye on the situation and given council to the person in question, but I would never physically harm somebody over something that could have easily been just a prank.

option 1 is the prefered option for this little chicky. Dont think I could ever take a life over something like that. Fate is destiny, but Karma is a biatch when she catches up with you!

You have entirely too much time on your hands.
