be safe. Meet him in a public place. Don't give him your address invite him to you home or go to his until you know him better. Tell somebody where you are going, who you are meeting and when you expect to be back. Take a mobile phone. Either drive yourself or make sure you can get back by cab or public transport yourself.
He's probably a really nice guy, most people are, so he won't mind you being cautious.

just be yourself..and smile at him the instant you meet him..
be confident and think of a very good topic so that you may have something to start with...so that you may not be that awkward..because of silence...have a sense of humor
