I understand that a PC requires internet firewall and spyware protection but is this the case for a pocket pc

It depends on how paranoid you are. :-)

Windows viruses don't work under Windows Mobile - not even the macro viruses. Currently there are only one virus and one backdoor for Windows Mobile - and they aren't a real threat; for instance, the virus asks for permission before replicating.

However, the potential is there. For now, it doesn't make much sense to use a virus-specific scanner - but you might consider using a firewall for protection against future network-oriented threats.
