It occurs to me that they're not only dangerous to the envionment but also to pedestrians. Is it really necessary to drive around in a 2 ton vehicle just to take the kids to school and then burn up more petrol than is forgivable when there is onlhy the driver bumming it along the motorway?

I think people should be able to drive them if they want. They should all be LPG by law.

Its Ture U Don't Need A 2 Ton 4X4 To Take The Kids To School, But Then Its The Safest Means Of Transport,
I Have Personally Been Saved Because Of My 4 Wheel Drive (I Had A Land Crusier, In which I met With A Really Nasty Accident, That SUV is like a tank when we got out of the car the front and the rear end were completely crushed, it was the passenger cabin that was intact. So I Completely Dont Want A Production Quota On These Suv's

No.

That way, rich town-dwelling people would buy up all the quota, and farmers and the like who actually need them would be without.

Also, what makes you think that "off roaders" are dangerous to pedestrians? For starters, because they are taller a pedestrian is actually more likely to see one - or the driver more likely to see the pedestrian. Also, in the event of an impact with a pedestrian the high bonnet is a long way clear of the engine in most SUVs, leaving more space to cushion the impact, and the long bonnet and high base of windscreen mean the pedestrian is more likely to hit their head on the relatively soft bonnet rather than the hard windscreen, compared to an impact with a conventional car.

The popular SUVs at present are smaller (use less road space than a Mondeo, and a similar amount of fuel), and some are available without four-wheel-drive, and weigh considerably less than 2 tonnes.

The reason there are so many is because for some reason women feel safer in a big vehicle. They can't park them for sh-t but it makes them feel better being in a freaking Bus sized vehicle, and they like the fact that they can see over cars in traffic.... Limit production NO. Teach the people that drive them to actually drive them well OH MY GOD YES.
Remember the thing called a 3 point turn. Kinda like getting out of a parkig space?
Back up,turn the wheel get out of the parking space,Put it in drive and go?????
Nope not these women in Big SUVS
They need to do a 10 point turn for some reason! You can wait a good 1 1/2 to 2 min Waiting for some of them to get out of a freekin parking space.

Women don't get mad! But you know this definitely appies to you!!! If your husband or boyfriend is reading this you know they are laughing right behind you and pointing at you!

I grew up in a day when it was normal to see huge cars and trucks on the road (I'm 41). The trucks that you are talking about run about 75% cleaner and get double the gas mileage on the highway than what they did 20 years ago. Why aren't you complaining about the 300+ horsepower Mustangs, Camaros, Corvettes that are running the roads and getting the same gas milage. Aren't all vehicles dangerous to the environment and to pedestrians?
Could it be that you are jealous about not being able to afford a truck or SUV?
What kind of car do you drive? Is it by choice or because you cant afford the gas to drive?
You have your choice-let other people have theirs! This is America you know!

sorry for babbeling on. 4x4's enrage me. Grrrr!

Should we limit the amount of times you boil a kettle for tea etc.. as it is sooo bad for the poor planet? should we limit Vans, Lorry's, emergency vocals etc.. because if they hit a member of the public they could be hurt? grow a brain of your own and stop jumping on the band waggon! people have choices an some people like nice motors, i dont drive one personally but one day i hope i will and then people can be jealous and begrudging of me!

Don't get me started on this one!!!! I HATE THEM!!!! Stupid, stupid cars and stupid people who insist on driving a car which is meant for off road driving through city/village streets!!!! What is the matter with them? I think only people who really need them should be allowed to buy them in the name of safety on the roads!
