Write a letter! Then keep a copy! If you do it by phone all kinds of stuff can happen. You need to keep your proof so that there are no comebacks on you and they don't try to make you pay back money in the long run!

The initial claim for Incapacity Benefit is made by telephone. You will be asked for basic details and the completed form will be sent to you for you to check, sign and return to the appropriate office, it is a good idea to keep a photocopy for your records. If you meet the entitlement criteria Incapacity Benefit will be awarded. Incapacity Benefit is paid up to the age of 65, in your extra comment you suggest you are in receipt of Attendance Allowance and, as this benefit is paid to people of 65 or over it is unlikely that you are entitled to Incapacity Benefit.

Incapacity benefits must all be documented in order to have proof. Telephone conversations can lead to a lot of trouble.
