I remember this question from an episode of "Head of the Class" which starred Howard Hessmen, as a AP History teacher.
When asked the question: "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?"

He said (if I remember) the chicken is a "real" chicken and the egg is a "potential" chicken, and since reality exceeds potentiality, the chicken came first.

The egg.

The first chicken was a mutant descendant of a non-chicken.

Reality isn't subjective. Evolution is fact.
Your religious beliefs are moot.

You identify the type of organism by DNA
The egg came first.
It's a chicken egg -- not a potential chicken egg.

It is relative...so it could be either. However if you ask chicken or egg came into existence in the first place. The answer is Chicken.

1. The Gods and Goddesses proposed that question to confuse us. A little fun with serious philosophers.

2. But the answer is quite simple. It's one of the great mysteries of the world.

Good Luck and Warm Wishes.

it comes down to belief... if you believe in the bible's story of creation, the chicken came first... if you believe in the evolutionary part of science, the egg came first... that is as simple or as complex as it gets...
