It is a Hebrew girls name meaning 'oak tree'. I like it, but someone suggested that because neither of the parents are Jewish, using a Hebrew name doesnt quite fit. What do you think?

I have no issue with a Hebrew name for Gentiles, and it is beautiful. My only issue is that people will always have trouble spelling/pronouncing it. Is it EYE-la or AE-la?

BTW, Ruriko (beautiful name) needs to remember that it's the child who will be saddled with this name for life, not the parent, no matter how much they like it!

I love the name Ayla, its so dainty and elegant.

My name is Jewish/Hebrew, first and last!! But my mom's Irish, dad's English! A lot of names come from the Bible (like my first name) and I married into a German Jewish last name.

I don't think it matters too much. Ayla doesn't sound overly Hebrew, I think it would fit with a number of cultures.

It's a great name. BTW, that's also a girl's name in Turkish meaning "with the moon". Good luck!

To the poster who likes "Emine", be aware that name is a bit of an older name (sort of a "Turkish Linda"' the most famous example being Emine Erdogan, the wife of the prime minister of Turkey), and that "my Emine" is "Eminem" in Turkish! Still a nice name though.

I've always loved that name! There can only be a hangup about using a Hebrew name if you allow one to be created...do what works for you!

Not at all. If you like it, go for it!

My name is Ruriko (Japanese) and my parents are Irish! As long as you know what it means and you love the name, that's all that matters!

Besides, all names come from somewhere in the world. If everyone stuck to names coming only from their birth country, it'd be an extremely boring world! And even the most common names, like Jessica and Rebecca, wouldn't used!

I love it, and I don't think anyone will care whether it's Hebrew or not. It's a very pretty name, I think.

I know people who are not Jewish and they named their daughter Ayla. I don't think most people know its origin, and its a beautiful, strong name.
