Girdles and corsets are support undergarments that are both designed to achieve maximum control over the hips and lower abdomen. Both typically offer built-in garter straps as well. The difference between them mainly lies in their length and extent of coverage. Girdles cover the hips and reach the lower abdomen. They also control the buttock area. Corsets, on the other hand, start at the lower hips and reach all the way up to the bosom.

Both items are great choices for those of all body types who wish to have a more streamlined look beneath their evening wear. For both the petite and plus-sized, girdles and corsets help to create a smaller waistline, while at the same time providing a taut, dependable hold for stockings. Many different styles and details are available in girdle and corset choices, ranging from support choices to the amount of garter straps to color.

Features of Girdles and Corsets
Special support features set specific designs apart from one another. For example, some girdles and corsets feature spandex inserts for greater support over a given area. These panels are often placed over the tummy, hips, or buttocks, for these are areas that typically need extra control. Garter straps typically range from four to six, but can exceed that amount for even more stocking support.

Most girdles and corsets are typically offered in black, white, nude, or off-white, for these are the colors that look the least conspicuous under clothing. However, other colors also may be available. This is especially true in the case of corsets, which tend to have a bit of an exhibitionist streak, and thus offer more adventurous choices.

A corset is designed for figure training. A corset will pull your stomach in and hold it in and help mold your figure. After your figure is the way you want it, it is best to wear a firm boned girdle daily at least 18 to 16 hours per day. A girdle will just support and hold your figure in place - a girdle unlike a corset will not pull your stomach in, but just support your stomach. There are health benefits to both since we as humans stand erect not wearing a girdle or a corset has a very negative effect on our posture and not hold and supporting our internal organs. A firm boned girdle or corset will for sure hold and support your stomach and internal organs in the normal nature position - this is why it is a very healthy choice to always be well girdle at least 16 to 18 hours a day every day.

An overbust corset covers the breasts, while an underbust corset stops just below them. Underbust corsets are far easier to buy off the rack than overbust corsets as they go by the waist measurement only, rather than waist and bust. If you are planning on wearing your corset underneath your clothing an underbust corset is far less obvious than an overbust corset.
