Your wagonR is a front wheel drive. If you have crossed 35k km, then it is likely to be the drive shaft. Even more likely is your sound is more when you turn either left or right rather than being consistent for either turn. Typically you can go about 5000km from the time you hear the sound first till you need a replacement, though I would advise you not to wait that long.

Each drive shaft kit would cost about Rs. 4500 + labour (I'm guessing). BTW the drive shaft going bad (if it is indeed your problem) is a common problem in all Marutis. It sets in earlier than in other vehicles.

Your differential has gone bad. The wheels on the front are connected to the steering wheel with a pinion joint called differential cone connection. Normally that area is a contact between a rotating and and a non rotating components for the front wheel. The cone is normally greased and closed with a rubber flexible cover. By any reason if mud or small stones enter the greasy area, there is a wear. Also if there is a tear of the rubber bush, the grease leaks away. When the grease action is gone, the joint develops a sound. When you try to turn fast, the sound pitches high.

You need to take your vehicle to the company and ask them to check the wheel differential cone. I am not sure about the price of a Suzuki parts in India, but can tell you that it would cost you about $80/- in middle east countries. Guess you will have about 50% of it in India, due to lower spare parts prices.

Hope you got the answer!!! Please leave your feedback if you find this answer is a fitting reply to your question.

Good Luck

You haven't mentioned if the sound appears when you turn the wheels to a particular side or both sides. It is probable that one of your drive-shafts have gone bust (due to leakage of grease from inside the dust boot as explained in the first answer). If so, it will be an expensive replacement. A drive shaft for the Wagon R should cost around 2 - 3000/-. Get it done only at an authorised service centre though.

***Yes, the Wagon R is front-wheel driven. :)
