For a nice homemade glow that won't over-dry or damage your skin, and that will even out skin tone and fight acne, I used to use this technique, which a good friend who has problems with Roseacea (abnormal red patches), uses and loves:

1. First, you need to clean your skin. Home-made cleansers are time-consuming to make, so simply made store-bought products are generally a better choice. Kiss My Face products are great, especially their Olive Oil Bar Soaps. They're about $2 to $4 a bar, and work wonders. They're entirely organically made, and are made of Olive oil, water, salt, and the specific herbal extract for that bar. Every now and then one has fragrance.

2. Mix 3 tablespoons lemon juice (either fresh or from concentrate, but fresh is best) with1 tablespoon sugar. This makes a great scrub that evens out your skin tone. Generally, use this first, then cleanse.

3. Tea Tree Oil. This oil is a great moisturizer, especially for dry skin. It moisturizes, reduces redness, keeps oily skin from producing too much oil, and again, evens out skin tone.

4. Witch hazel. You can find either get the plant and make a tea out of the dried leaves and apply directly to problem spots, or you can get an astringent made with about 80% witch hazel extract from many discount and drug stores. If your skin is too oily mid day, this makes a great, all-natural astringent.

Exfoiliating the skin always helps, but I like the Neutrogena Healthy Skin face lotion with SPF 15. It helps by using "Alpha-Hydroxy Acid. It eases away the appearance of fine lines, blotches and discolorations for a more vibrant, even-toned complexion."
It works, from experience :D
Hope this helped

I put fresh milk on my face and leave it on for 15 minutes or so before washing it off with lemon soap and water. =)
