YEAH, RIGHT!
One world govt. is really not a bad idea. However to achieve such a utopia without violating the rights of others as well as other SOVEREIGN nations is not an easy accomplishment.
Most people do not know they are SOVEREIGN, they have unwittingly contracted all of there rights away without knowing it.
EDUCATION, not necessarily through an institution is crucial. Sadly, most of the worlds population behave like sheep....oops,
a Soviet communist said that years ago.

Unless humanity faces some imminent threat of extinction before which all other problems we face amount to nothing (and I'm talking the really outrageous stuff here - alien invasion, supervolcanoes, impending giant meteor collision etc) humans will be simply too divided for a single world govt to work. Primarily, nobody will want to give up their independence and risk being ruled by someone half a world away who doesnt really care for them. Even with so many countries there are civil wars and stuff going on all the time. I simply do not see how so many people who hate each other's guts can live together under one roof.

Are we not surviving now. The most important requirment is to understand each other, have empathy, sympathy, the urge to help the needy without any strings, trying to be happy with the environment which is free of dirty politics etc. There will never be a question of war or nuclear capability acquisition tactics as such things are not required in the above environment except for development of human friendly aspect bereft of lethal weapons.

We'll survive the same way we have for the past several hundred thousand years -- as insular clans, mostly trying to get along but not always succeeding. I find the notion of one world government to be terrifying: where would you run to if the government were intent on screwing you? With separate nation-states, there is at least an escape path.

Dear President GW Bush,
What are you doing up so late. Shouldn't you be tucked into bed at the White House. You ought not be playing around on someones White House computer leaving silly notes on Yahoo Answers. Now sneak back to bed before Laura wakes up and comes lookin for you.
Leave the hard question to Vice-President Dick, he'll tell you what you are suppose to do.
Now, shhhhh, get back to bed, go on...shhh

not ALL people are valueless. removing all could be a tragic waste. There are some relatively large people available (like my maximum suitable chum Jenny, and Jane Siberry). additionally there is often desire that one technology gets it desirable. Selective extinction ought to be a greater effective selection ... like all legal specialists. possibly you ought to hunt 'different philosophies' for a reason YOU exist. stable success!

A few hundred people at the United Nations can't agree on what to have for lunch and you want to expand that to the whole world?

That would never work because everyone has different values and beliefs. In the US, our own government is divided, so if they can't agree, how do you think we could get everyone else to agree?
