How to shake the dust of carpets without being covered in it?

I often have to get rid of the dust on a small carpet (about the size of two or three car carpets, used for shoe covering)

Anyways it really annoys me when the dust goes all over my face. Any personal suggestions or experiences with fixing this?

Thanks

Drape it over a post or a fence, then whack it with a carpet beater (old tennis racket or baseball bat would work, too).

With my smaller carpets, I often beat it against a stone pillar outside my house, and I guess the prevailing winds are right, because it rarely comes back to me.

That size is small enough, you could wash it in the washing machine. I don't understand the reference to shoe covering? Couldn't you use towels or some sort of cloth to cover the shoes instead of a carpet? That's even more washable.

I have hooks on the sides of the Gazebo and hook a clothes line for this, my wife can take out her frustrations of being married to me when she beats the carpets this way too.

Pay a guy to do it. Its will be worth your money. First of all, you may not be strong enough to beat the heck out of the carpet. You can only get so much out with your puny hits. (sorry for calling your "whacks" puny).

Hang it on a clothesline stand your back to the wind and beat the hell out of it. or smile lovingly at your partner and say the bust is too much for you, you might get away with it

Hang all the carpet up first, then use a cane to whack it. This will do the job.

I heard about this new invention, it's pretty revolutionary, and would suit this problem perfectly. Say it with me, vacuum cleaner! Hoover it baby!
