After about a month the inner edge of the new belt has been torn off. And the pulleys to the crankshaft and tension seem to be worn. Can anyone tell me what would cause this or how to fix it.

As the belt pulleys each have many mini groves as does the belt, sometimes the belt is not positioned exactly on each pulley. This will cause the excessive wear and early failure. When you install the new belt, carefully inspect the position on each pulley. Then run the engine and shut it off and reinspect. Reposition as necessary.

sounds like either the new belt wasn't put on right and was riding up on the edge of the pully or maybe the belt wasn't installed in the right direction or you may just have a bad pully,. and can get away with just replacing the crank pully.

I would say it was not alligned correctly when you installed it and rode high on one of the pulleys, or rubbed on the worn side .
