Has anyone noticed how many racist questions and answers there are on this site? I can't believe so many people openly ask racist questions, although most of them are so thick they think they are being discreet, or try to portray it as not racist. And all those small minded people really annoy me. Aaaagh.
Does anyone else share my frustration?

GMAN I was asking because I'm fairly new to this and I was surprised that there were so many people on this site openly racist, I don't use other sites like this or chat sites etc and I was really quite surprised by it.
Don't like your sarcasm.

I read one yesterday and was shocked at how many people wrote "I'm not racist, but but I hate..." It made me really sad, usually you see enlightened, intelligent sensitive people (for the most part barring the jokers) then suddenly to see the opposite- a bunch of bigots, with prejudice and hate.
I thought these discusions could help eliminate hatred based on skin colour or where your parents were born. I guess we humans still have further to go than I thought.
I'm English but live in South Africa. Here everyone is working towards overcoming the divides. It seems that in the UK it is more acceptable to a be a racist. Theres so much hatred. I dont want to live like that. But I advocate freedom of speech, and that must aply to everyone. Im going to just read the questions that deal with issues not based on a persons skin colour.
No you are not alone in your frustration. I just hope peoples attitudes can change for acceptance rather than hate.

I am fiercly ANTI racist and i have asked questions my self about others views and opinions as a way of finding out who shares my beliefs. In a way i set myself up to be offended and hurt by some of the derogatory responces, some of which felt like a personal attack. However this just served to confirm for me that these are the very people that are keeping racsm alive and active.I know we live in a democoracy that allows freedom of speech but i believe to purposely set out to offend someone on such a sensitive issue is an indication that you and i are right to be concerned, and as such also have a right to say so.I am a white woman who has been slated for my anti discrimination practices(always by other white people)and as much as i find this frustrating i never let this compromise my integrity.

Most racists comments are said in ignorance.
If you grow up or mix with a diverse amount of people it broadens the mind and you should come to the conclusion it is individuals which are either nice or not nice, not the colour of their skin or culture.
Some people refuse to look outside their limited mind set. Racists have to be pitied as they have failed to use the whole of their brains and are very little travelled in mind and physically.

I guess that are and always be racists. but by using internet they can all the things they say as nobody will be able to know who they are.
Some are people are true racists, some are just trying to be, others just want to provocate.
But the fact there are some here simply shows that they exist and thus can be here on Yahoo Answers.
In France we say : he says out loud what everybody think quietly. Meaning there are people who are like that and we can do anything about it.
It's a shame though because this questions are really useless.

I think they're just trying to provoke people or venting their frustrations by posting stuff that they couldn't get away with in real life.
I think they're sort of experimenting..and don't really mean it.
There will be a few who are true racists though. Such a shame. I think that people who continually post stuff like that should be reported by Yahoo to their ISP or something.
After all, isn't it breaking rules? I know they can report you on other sites for breaking rules and writing racist or threatening things.
Only if it is consistant though.
Considering accounts can be hacked etc.. I personally think they're very brave/stupid

yes i agree with you though there are people who deliberately try to cause offence and air their disgusting views. some people would say that on yahoo! answers it is just a form of free speech. well, its bigotry to me and the sad thing is because it is the internet and because yahoo! is stupidly lenient, anyone can post a racist remark when and as they feel like it and they appear on screen, partly because yahoo! doesn't go to great lengths to block and ban racist, homophobic and extremely sexist comments. the leniency of it all and sheer idiocy in terms of dishing out violations for non-threatening, trivial and intelligent questions and answers, whilst condoning questions and answers that are derogatory, deeply offensive and on occasions provoking the questioner, still stand.
i'd say we give racists and people of that sort, a thumbs down and tell it like it is by commenting that they are not doing themselves any favours whatsoever. what a shame that in person the racists wouldn't have the guts to face us and say it to our face because they are probably whimps and too **** scared to admit they are racist

I'd assume so many people ask racist questions because this is one of the few forums where they can. I'm sure a lot of people have always wanted to ask things like that but have been too afraid of offending someone and/or being alienated by their friends and peers.
Though, there are a lot of rude, obnoxious people asking ridiculous questions; I bet they're just trolls.
