When a big white shaggy thing with bad breath pins you with its hairy paw and snuffles to discern the best place to begin devouring you, as you grimace in terror, choking under the weight.
When, like your genes, you find yourself pulled in two directions, finally giving way with a rift down the middle, regrowing the other half after you split and pull apart.
When democrats insist that Bush's presidency forced bipartisanship upon dims and repubs. In fact, the dimrats were only covering for Gore who tore the body politic apart when he called for a recount in the 2000 presidential election. Dimrats pressed the issue further trying desperately to regain power for the sake of power, employing any and every dirty tactic they could or couldn't use. Well, herrrrrrrrrre they are. With naked ambition, they clawed and scrabbled to win. This nation is in serious trouble because the zombies voted for rats.
Because the dimrats strove so deeply to oppose every ethical and moral thing the right stood for, they slid greasily to the other side. We, aghast, pulled ourselves away in horror of dimrat ideologies, fascism, treason, spin, comforting the enemies, stoking the media with lies, and creating really bad movies.

Polarization is a word used to define different ends of the spectrum politically.
It's like when an issue comes up for debate and one side is completely opposed but the other side is completely for it. You would say it is a polarized issue because both sides are adamant with their stances against and for it.
It's used to represent the fact the two sides are completely opposite... ie, the north and the south poles.

It is a process of seeking out and finding differences, and reasons to disagree, rather than trying to find similarities and compromises.
