Yes, it does have internet access. Not only can you play games online with other users, but you can surf the internet (that's what they said on T.V.) I'm not sure if it needs to be hardwired or not. If it doesn't have a wireless card built in, or one you can get as an accessory, then you'll need to plug the internet connection into the unit.
Of course, if it is wireless, you'll need a router.

Well, since it's a competitor with the Xbox 360, it does come with an Internet access capability by default (as compared to the PS2's optional add-on).
I believe it complies with wireless Internet connection standards, though I'm pretty sure it can handle wired connections as well.
