I did a research project once on natural gas. I found eternal flames to be very interesting. An eternal flame is a flame that constantly burns; it is fed by a supply of natural gas (usually the supply is trapped between layers of shale). I visited an example of an eternal flame in Chestnut Ridge Regional Park in New York State. It is located underneath a waterfall...you should look up pictures of it. It's really neat and would add to your report! A good website is: www.pbase.com/calanan/eternal for pictures.

Most all fossil fuels that we mine or drill for today have come from the Carboniferous Era, a time of particularly high CO2 atmospheric concentrations. Through the burning of such fossil fuels, we're succeeding in replicating the high C02 levels and creation of Carboniferous Era II.
