Your a cancer rn or do you mean oncology??? Never heard of Amgen, but any pharmaceutical stock is a good stock to invest in.

AMGN (Amgen) stock price has gone up. If you would have bought 1000 shares in Nov 04, you would have seen a 21% increase in value from them to now (not a bad investment). If however, you would have bought those 1000 shared in Nov 04, you would have seen a 12% decrease in value (in other words, lost 12% of your principal.)

My advice, is you haven't been in the stock market, this isn't a stock for you. Med stocks are volitile, and you need to be able to handle losing some or all of your money.

If you're interested in medical field, I would recommend that you buy a mutual fund that invests in healthcare stocks. Then professionals are picking the stocks for you, and you can reap the benefit of their expertise. Something like:
