For US citizens: How do you view the united states?

I have an essay (its due Wednesday) but I think I need more opinions on the subject then I have at the moment. This isn't a time for hate but it is a time to express your opinion, if that opinion is a negative one, then so be it but tell me why you have such a view. I appreciate the help and your time, thank you.

ps. I also have a simulair question for those from other countries which is here at: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aj3WfHse4LnH_oEFkPMEoAcjzKIX?qid=20061120224228AAskvHY

I think Mr. Johnny Cash summed it up best-
Ragged Old Flag
I walked through a county courthouse square,
On a park bench an old man was sitting there.
I said, "Your old courthouse is kinda run down."
He said, "Naw, it'll do for our little town."
I said, "Your old flagpole has leaned a little bit,
And that's a Ragged Old Flag you got hanging on it."

He said, "Have a seat," and I sat down.
"Is this the first time you've been to our little town?"
I said, "I think it is." He said, "I don't like to brag,
But we're kinda proud of that Ragged Old Flag.

"You see, we got a little hole in that flag there
when Washington took it across the Delaware.
And it got powder-burned the night Francis Scott Key
Sat watching it writing Say Can You See.
And it got a bad rip in New Orleans
With Packingham and Jackson tuggin' at its seams.

"And it almost fell at the Alamo
Beside the Texas flag, but she waved on though.
She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville
And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill.
There was Robert E. Lee, Beauregard, and Bragg,
And the south wind blew hard on that Ragged Old Flag.

"On Flanders Field in World War I
She got a big hole from a Bertha gun.
She turned blood red in World War II.
She hung limp and low by the time it was through.
She was in Korea and Vietnam.
She was sent where she was by her Uncle Sam.

"She waved from our ships upon the briny foam,
And now they've about quit waving her back here at home.
In her own good land here she's been abused --
She's been burned, dishonored, denied, and refused.

"And the government for which she stands
Is scandalized throughout the land.
And she's getting threadbare and wearing thin,
But she's in good shape for the shape she's in.
'Cause she's been through the fire before
And I believe she can take a whole lot more.

"So we raise her up every morning, take her
down every night.
We don't let her touch the ground and we fold
her up right.
On second thought, I do like to brag,
'Cause I'm mighty proud of the Ragged Old Flag."

Every part of this country is different. even in my county the people in different towns act differently. there so many types and races and cultures that that's an impossible question an answer in a very concise manner. I love this country and her people.we used to have a certain type of soul. a way about us. a pride a feeling of courage and honor and well. its going away. its something i cant put my finger on exactly but were losing what we had. its a damn shame to. I do not appreciate the Feds right now. and there plans we were once a great people. but were such a nation of sheep now its pitiful.allowing the Feds to do whatever they wont to. and believing there propaganda.A large war is comeing.

I see that the United States, the most powerful nation in the world, has become a materialistic tool for increasingly few and heartless people.

Unlike other cultures, Americans think we aren't expendable tools, so we look the other way. We still think our government agencies seek to protect us. We want to believe we are the greatest, while we fall behind other cultures in education, awareness, health, human rights, and courage.

I still have hope because Americans believe in freedom like no other culture I've seen. If the rest of the world would lead and let us fall behind, I think we might become humble, kick out these would-be dictators, and be even better than before.

I think that America has gotten so far away from what we based our culture on that we are fast becomming a lost & confused ppl.
Instead of simply becomming more loving & more civilized,we started slowly embracing all manner of immorality & sin!
Now we are a culture that believes it can do anything it wants no matter who it hurts in their own backyard!
We settled this country to serve God & be equal. We finally got equal right by abolishing slavery, but now we embrace ,adultery, fornication, homosexuality & throw out prayer in school & public displays of faith.Women can work outside the home now,but strangers ,or no one looks after our children during the most formative years of their lives.
We are a culture that craves material things now, more than a stable home & marriage or a regular job!
THe domino effect is taking place here & we need to stop it & put a few of the dominoes back up there! Then we need to erect a fence & glue them down with super glue!

in answering your other question to foreigners and americans..

i'm half brazilian and half cajun (from new orleans) .. through my travels from different countries i've found many reasons to be greatful for the US.. but there are many things we are looked down apon ..

speaking about Americans in general.. we are a VERY introverted country. We are not aware of other countries.. or care. The only things many people know of other cultures is what they see on the news.. which most of the time is bad and only half true or half the story. Many dont know or care about their backgrounds... where we came from. We are very narrow minded. We only see what we want to see.. and what the U.S wants us to see.. These are the things we are HIGHLY criticized for. Many americans dont even see this unless they've travel outside the US.. and get a better perspective.. see outside the box.

But i guess coming from such a great country.. the US cant have it all ..

Im a african american female living in chicago and im 18 going on 19. I dont want to give black people a bad name but around where i stay at its horrible. I live near the 100s and i just got back from ISU in bloomington, IL. Its so beautiful out there and as soon as i got back and i wasnt even 5 minutes off the greyhound bus and 4 girls tried to jump me for no reason. They walked passed me and was like i should take her phone cuz i was on it (i have a pink razor). Its horrible how black people fight or jump people for no reason...especially girls. There are not that many feminine black females out nowadays that are just humble, beautiful, and just an all around nice person...its horrible that i have to down my own race but dang the things we do to each other is horrible!

Its a crumbling giant having been sold out to the Third World by power hungry Democrats. Our citizens have lost the vision of America and instead live by slogans and flavor of the week causes.
