A few reasons:

1. Republicans believe life is precious until you are born.

2. They have successfully brainwashed the uneducated members of their party into believing only democrats are on welfare... the number of registered republicans on welfare is actually higher than democrats. There is a large concentration of white Republican welfare recipients in the Midwest states.

3. They do not believe in the constitution that the Supreme Court based its ruling on in making abortion legal.

I'm a republican. I'm also a Christian. I don't hate poor people. I pray for them. I also do not believe that just because you are poor you are stupid. And you would have to be pretty stupid not to know about, and take advantage of, all the many free programs out there for underprivileged poor people including the programs that provide birth control. There are a lot of women who get pregnant for all the wrong reasons and then when it doesn't work out, look to get an abortion. Just because you are poor does not mean you should be allowed to be that irresponsible. It's criminal to kill a small, helpless baby and there is always the option of adoption.

Those mothers had the choice to have children. Republicans want everyone to keep what they earn. That's life. That's realism

The Democrats believe in idealism, which isn't based in reality, and cannot sustain itself.

The Republicans base their views on the truth, the facts of the world, and if the libbies don't want to understand the world that way, they will be gravely disappointed when their house of cards comes crumbling.

It isn't a good thing to stereotype. Not all Republican's are against abortion. I am one and I think that if some people had been aborted, the world would be a better place.

let me refute this right now particularly mikes comments
Mike what hog wash either you are oblivious to history or just to ignorant to care.
What party authored the the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments freeing slaves, Granting them citizenship and protecting their right to vote
What party pressed through the 1958 and 1964 civil rights bills protecting the blacks right to vote
what party authored the 1964 &1968 civil right s bill protecting black voters and preventing housing discrimination based on race
what president signed the Americans with disabilities act
what presdident eliminated the taxes on the bottom 30th percentile of earners otherwise known as the working poor
What party supported and enacted the Child care credit and the earned income credit making child care more affordable for working poor and middle class families

Eva Republicans don't hate the poor they are compassionate We believe in a safety net for those who have fallen on hard times. That said we will not be enabler of destructive behavior.
What does that mean? To put it simply that we believe in everyones ability to improve themselves and that poverty assistance is a joint responsibility of the government and the personal responsability of the poor. To be more specific-

We belive if you want to improve your job skills to break the poverty cycle we will support Gov't programs to help you gain basic job skill and offer subsidized funding for education to achieve even better job skills.
We believe if you have suffered economic loss because of illness or temporary bad times or whatever we will help support you for a limited time until you get back on your feet but not indefinitely
We believe that it is your responsibility to take action as well as the governments to take action to remedy a situation

What we don't believe in is-
If your are poor providing barely substance assistance indefinitely , housing you in urban ghetto's that lead to urban blight with no economic opportunities or hope of breaking the poverty cycle

supporting self destructive behavior like adding to your family when you can not provide a healthy standard of living for the ones you already have.

your reliance on solely government assistance without taking personal responsibility by taking advantage of existing programs to improve ones plight.
For those that accuse the Republicans of ignoring the poor. I would say many of you ignore the basic reasons for poverty and how it is perpetuated and almost institutionalized in your desire to serve this economic sector. i accuse the Great Society programs of of LBJ of Enslaving the poor to the party and the Government with now real hope of improving your lot. I accuse the Progressive of making poverty a socoally acceptable thing in their compassion. Poverty IS NOT acceptable for me and it sure shouldn't be for the poor or anyone else.

there I believe my rant is over

I am poor and a Republican. You can have a baby for free, and you can pick a good home for the child instead of making sure the child doesn't have any future. If you are so afraid of losing your figure get sterilized.

They have been against everything that has been put forth to help those in compromised or minority positions. Women's rights and the right to vote, Black's rights and the right to vote, handicapped rights, unions, the minimum wage, child labor laws, food for poor children, health care, and to your question, prenatal care for poor women which would prevent millions of miscarriages with proper care. They say they care about the unborn babies, but if money needs to come out of their pockets, their virtue dries right up. But,if you listen to their press agent, they are compassionate conservatives and pro-life. I don't know if it is hate, but it sure sounds alot like Marie Antoinettes "let them eat cake."
