A note that has taken "secondary" position behind another lien (like a 1st Mortgage /1st Trust Deed). So in ther words, any loan that is subordinated behind another will be the most at risk as to getting paid in case of default on the loan. That is another reason why 2nd mortgages are higher interest rates because they are behind the 1st mortgage.
