"Spain" is a composition by Chick Corea and I think he still owns the copyright!

I'm not sure if this is a legitimate question or a shameless plug for samtriggy. I have no idea about the copyrights for samtriggy, but I do know for most classical music (and other types of music too). There are two types of music copyrights... publishing rights and performance rights. The performance rights are the rights to the recording of music... so if Yo-Yo Ma does a recording for Sony Classical (record label)... the record label (Sony Classical) would own the performance rights ... or the copyright to that recorded material. The publishing rights is for the written music... so if you wanted to record or use a recording of J.S. Bach's "Ave Maria", you would need to get permission from the company or person who owns the publishing rights for the piece... which in this case is Boosey and Hawkes.

One thing you must know, is that most true classical songs do not hold any copy right. Typically if a song or piece is over 100 years old it looses it copy right. This is why you are able to play and record and sell your own versions of classical music with out having to pay anyone.
