I am about to order a regular 19" TFT LCD monitor. But I am just thinking that if I order a 19" widescreen (1440 x 900)one instead, it will be more useful for doing landscape shaped cartoons (the prices are almost same). Am I thinking in the right way? Also planning to get a 6 x 11 Wacom Intuos3. Please advise !

As an AutoCAD specialist my most important considerations were the sheer size of the monitor. While wide screen might have reduced my panning from left to right, it would be better to just have a large monitor with an excellent resolution so you can zoom in and see the details better.

When you create any drawing you will work at a close level to get the details right, this is true for any kind of drawings on the computer, or illustrations. Once you have the completed the image then you zoom out to see all of it. With a larger monitor you can see those details easier to make sure that everything fits together.

Rendering and animation are two of the most difficult tasks a computer can do. It is not uncommon to have a detailed animation or realistic rendering drawn and then you have to wait several hours for the computer to complete the math for the proper display. Clearly a good graphics card will help a lot in this area. The graphics card takes some of the heavy graphics load off the main processor and makes it easier for the computer to handle the rest of the calculations.

Wide is the way to go ... even if you don't use all the screen for graphics you might find that having two apps open together an advantage and with a widescreen this option looks much better than on an ordinary screen
