Well for me I go to the gym to build up my muscles and speed, because this helps me improve my strength and timing on the court. Also if you do cardio exercises you can last longer on the court. The best way to improve your tennis skills is basically exercising and playing against people that are at a higher level than you, because you can learn things from others that you never realize that are useful.
I have added a link below on tennis video instructions, it teaches you the proper way to serve, forehand, backhand etc...

starting at the wall can be pretty frustrating here are a few easy tips that i have had a lot of success with.... initailly start with what i call a HALF GRIP which which is whre the throat starts and the grip ends(top of rac.handle) try to hit easy volleys from the back hand side u could use the grip that your comfortable with ideally the continental grip bottm edge of the rac slightly leading with the top edge laid backstay about three to four feet from the wall and start trying to keep a rally going for a few balls then when u get a feel for it try it on the foehand side still with the half grip. during the rallies try to develop making contact off the centre of the strings then alternate forehand and back hand volleys once you have got comfortable with getting a feel for the ball... proceed to your full grip again step back a few feet further from the wall not more than five to six feet initially and get comfortable after some time alternate between forehands and back hands in any combinations that u like ex: 2fh volleys 1 bhand volley and the combinations are endless all the time try to recover back to a split position as much as possible start slow then increase the pace as u get better. and then proceed a little bit further back from the wall, upto about 10 to 12 feet not more challenge your self by moving forward closer to the wall and improve your reflexes as well . as u get closer to the wall tryto work on drop volleys this is quite easy think to your self that you are feathering the ball. onc eu get comfortable with it.. proced to the ground strokes again start about four to six feet from the wall and get to the half grip. change to your fh grip initially and hone in in your centering the ball dont try too much top or under spin at the begining. just try to make solid contact from the center of the strings. then start introducing topspin at the begining and ideally just stay onthe fh only then the bh only after sometime hit some alternate shots then slowly step back futher from the wall and hit off the full grip again first the fh and then the bh when u fell you are hitting well challenge your self by hitting a combination of strokes add a few volleys as well with adrop volley to finish. if u can as u get better draw a few squares onthe wall target those out try to keep a few ground strokes in to those areas and move up hit a few volleys and finish with a drop volley into a smaller square. if u miss u lose a point if u get the ball into a right area you win a point. play first to reach 15 points and see if you can beat the wall.. later when you want to challenge your self decide on the combinations that you want to be able to use and see if you can succeed.obviously when coming in to hit a volley try to change grips and see if u can succeed... all the best.. have fun..and always keep trying...

Well......back in high school.......i was on the team......and my dad used to film my practices. The night before my match I would watch myself and I would see where I messed up and fix my mistakes. You should do research on the Internet for tips on your strokes. Also, I highly recommend subscribing to tennis magazine because reading stuff in that magazine helped me TREMENDOUSLY.
When you go and practice on the courts, practice with you racket only with the ball.
When you are at home, practice with the racket in front of the mirror and don't break anything :)

practice, obviously. But before you practice, you should at least take one lesson. Not practice makes perfect, but perfect practice makes perfect. If you practice the wrong way, in the wrong form, then you won't get any better, or it will be a very, very slow improvement.

Forehand and back hands hit the balls crosscourt and down the lines. Serve at targets and serve a lot. Have your partner hit you 30 over heads in a row . Placement and speed should be your goals.

Hire a professional coach who is certified so that he can explained what you are doing wrong and how to correct. Of course, people can tell you practice makes perfect there WRONG... if you're practicing the wrong stroke over and over then it doesn't work.

watch the ball
raquet back
hit
follow through(you should almost be choking yourself with your arm. the tip of your elbow should be about 4-5 inches away from your face)

if you want more power, then when getting your raquet back, do a loop motion with your arm (your in ready position, and you bring your raquet up and around). you also have to get close enough to the ball to hit it, but you don't want it straight in front of you. you always want it to the right of you

practice is surely useful, but i suggest u must concentrate on ur weak points like maybe ur serve or backhand or whichever is the weak point of ur game.
i also feel u must watch tennis matches on tv cos that will teach u a load of tactics and smart ways to play like disguising ur shots, where to hit the ball at certain important points and obviously its fun to watch.

as stupid as it might sound...
Practice tennis' moves in slow motion. I practice like that for karate. It helps your reflexes and senses.
