There are tools out there that helps to optimize your pages by removing unecessary white spaces for search engine optimization. White spaces don't necessary ban your pages by the search engine crawlers. But they do dilute the keyword density of the content that you have on your pages. By how much i do not know. It also depends on the ever changing algorithm of the numerous crawlers out there.
