July 14 of 1789 was a historical date that marked the replacement of absolute monarchy by the Republic, when the people of France started the French Revolution.
The storming of La Bastille was a remarkable event when the insurgents seized this building, symbol of the ancient regimen, releasing prisoners and killing the governor, that would trigger other actions in the search of a new order in France.

The Fall of the Bastille occurred on that very day, touching off the French Revolution. The prison, near Paris, was the scene of its storming by the commoners after being mistreated by the upper-crust citizenry. Many of the peasants were housed in that infamous prison and faced a lot mistreatment.
