I don't think there should be a uniform policy in public schools. They say kids in uniforms are better behaved and after working a year in an elementary school that requires uniforms, I learned that just isn't true. They're the same kids, only in uniform. Uniforms are pointless. Uniforms don't change the ways kids act, a juvenile delinquent in a uniform is still a juvenile delinquent.

School uniforms make social delineations more difficult, and certainly provide relief for parents' budgets, but they don't have much to do with reducing the amount of sexual activity that goes on. It might if the school uniform were to be a set of baggy overalls, but then again, that might not work either. We live quite close to a Catholic school, where uniforms are compulsory.Kilt skirts, navy V-neck sweaters, white dickeys, and white knee socks. Sounds pretty tame, doesn't it? Well, when the nuns put the uniforms together, I'm sure they had no idea what a group of 15 and 16 year old girls could do with that outfit. The knee socks are nice and snug, but the kilts barely cover their butts! And a little kilt can do wonders for a hip swing, while that long length of bare skin between the top of the socks and the hem of the skirts makes them look like something out of a french farce, or some variation on the 'nursey nursey' theme.
That's not saying they are indulging in sexual activity, only that they manage to make themselves look hot even in a uniform.
It has more to do with what they are taught in school, and at home, than what they are told to wear.
Co-incidentally, there is a public high school nearby, and the young girls there dress totally inappropriately, with lots of camitops, bare midriffs and pants that look like they are painted on, or short skirts that hang so low you can see their rear cleavage -- but the uniforms look far sexier!

I'm not sure if a bunch of teen girls wearing sexy school uniforms would reduce any kind of sexual thoughts or activities at school. The thing is, young people like to have sex. It's not like they have sex with the clothes on (usually) anyways, so kids aren't going to care.
I think uniforms would help some kids, but harm others, depending on how comfortable they are with their own individuality. Uniforms take away students individuality. Some students have matured enough to be comfortable with themselves to wear what they want, others might like the idea of not having to worry about fitting in by wearing what they're peers will think is 'cool'.

Personally, there are arguments both ways. I just graduated and personally think that this day and time it wouldn't make much of a difference. I had sex before high school so, not really sure it would help. I agree a good dress code does make things a little more conservative.
If we really wanted to reduce sexual activity, we should have instituted dress codes in the 60's and made them standard before 'free speech' left the station. Can't call the train back now its way out there...
Honestly, I don't think its going to make a difference, we all know whats under the clothes and how many people have sex while wearing clothes.
So summary, no I don't think it would help in high school.

That's bull....I've been going to a school which requires uniforms for 12 years. I attend an all girls high school and let me tell u most of the girls are not really bonified whores but most people have experienced "sexual activity," the uniform has nothing to do with it..it's the values the parents instill upon the children and if the children are responsible enough to make good choices.

Wearing uniforms has no bearing on sexuality. Uniforms are used to put all students on a level playing field as far as dress is concerned. I'm all for them. And they are much cheaper than having to buy trend clothes for everyday wear. All Australian kids wear uniforms to school and keep the fashion parade for the week ends.
PS sexual attacks have nothing to do with clothes, they are about violence.

Quite honestly? No it doesnt help at all, there are many places here in Australia that have a school uniform policy in place, it doesnt stop the young girls going out and getting preganant at all.... (a teenage girl does not wear a school uniform outside of school hours do they....????)not one iota....education in regards to sexual behaviour is usually what stops them, nothing more, but they are going to do what they want to do, you cant change them anymore than anyone else can, they have to learn from and by their own mistakes.

I believe you are talking about Compton High when you say everyone acts like sluts without uniforms. Other than that, last time I checked, appropriate clothing is required for all schools. In fact, most public schools include a list of unacceptable clothing material, and required clothing, which you could call a "uniform".

I see your point although I am most thankful for uniforms -just because the way kids tease each other..I'm somewhat scarred from being looked down on in school for not having the right brand and glad my daughter wont go through it.I also went to a high school where kids would beat you up and steal your new shoes if they were nikes-problem solved if they all wear the same thing.

I would say that most sexual encounters among youth do NOT take place at school. Kids don't wear those uniforms outside of school -- therefore I don't think the uniforms have anything to do with sex.
