no, it shud not be banned. children could actually practice dicipline actually. If the cell phones used by students is feared juz because it will interupt the teaching and learning process then, the cell phone should be ban at school premises this includes all teachers, staff and students. that is fair, however if they ban it only to students, how about the abuse of cell phones from the teachers and staff? not everyone is able to resist the tempation to call or text even adults.
even the office clerk are mostly rude and they dont bother students who wants to make an emergency call as u said. by a right, during the teaching period all cell phones should be switched off .. however, during break or recess the cell phone can be used for emergency purposes at the school premises.
plus, if the cell phones of students is feared to be stolen and problem may arise because of theft, the school can standardize the type of cell phone to be used at school. then no one would ever steal another person's phone since its the same type.
consequently, if students arent allowed to bring cell phones to school and an emergency may arise, there is always a public phone booth or the student can always seek a teacher's help. so there's an equilibrium there, however, cell phones is really not the problem but the students who uses it with or without the responsibility is the problem..
hAhas~ i h0pe this helps!!

Sorry man, gotta shoot down your cell phone in class idea, im currently in grade 11 and i cant stand hear the person beside me sit there and talk to their friends on their for during the entire class, and if its an emergancy... the office WILL let you use their phone so its no big deal, i know everyone "just has a cell phone for an emergancy" but the truth is that although they could be used in an emergancy, they are mostly just used to avoid paying attention in class, oh and most of my friends that have cell phones in class are failing or close to it because they never pay attention and i know they are able to do it if they would just listen... so i am against cell phones in classrooms

My thought it, what if there was an emergency? True, you may be able to be called to the front office if there is an emergency. Personally, I got embarrassed when they called my name over the intercom. last day of school? If they have to be confiscated until the end of the class or day. If the kids go out on a date or something, their parents may want to know where they are. It would become a hassle if they always have to use someone's cell phone/house phone. Parents/grown-ups tend to get very worried about their babies/children.

Our school allows cell phones to be turned on, but silent and off during class. They must be kept in pockets, or in backpacks during class, and if a teacher sees it, they can take it away. Once in awhile, a cell phone may go off, but usually the teachers just let it go, and the person whose cell phone it was just turns it off. No one in our school really tries to defy the laws, since the laws are more than fair.
We are allowed to use cell phones before school, after school, during recess, lunch, and passing periods. Otherwise they are to be turned off, or on silent.
We're also allowed food and gum, even during class (although it depends on what the teacher will allow.) I'm actually surprised that I don't get too much gum under my desk, and surprised that not that many people even chew gum. But the quad is full of black gum "scars" on the ground. (No one really cares. It doesn't make it look that bad. At first, I thought that was how the cement was supposed to look like.)
We're allowed electronics like mp3 players and such as well, following the same rules as cell phones.
But do you really need cell phones? No. I wouldn't justify the need of cell phones because of "emergencies," since, like other people have said, there are phones in the office for "emergencies." But I have called my dad to bring me practice socks before. (:

If the school office has a working telephone, and an intercom system that can go to every classroom, then there is no reason for individual students to have cell phones. Kids don't use them for emergencies; they use them to cheat on tests and to text their friends instead of listening to their teachers.

I think they should ban them, they are there to learn not talk on the phone. If there is an emergency, then the school should call the parents. They call the parents when the kids are cuttininig up in class or they get detension.

I agree but b/c other teens ruin it for everyone else its banned. Instead of calling use text messaging its quieter and will most likely be on vibrate so the kid doesn't get in trouble during class. That's what we do at my school.

I think it's better to ban it. They have principal's offices in case of emegencies. Cellphone use encourages cheating and distracts students from the subject matter. They should only allow cellphone use in the campus when classes are over.

OH my! How would teachers teach if students were constantly text-messaging and taking calls?? Give me a break. You do realize, don't you, that kids have been going through school without cellphones for a looooooooong, loooooooooong time, and they SURVIVED. Man, kids crack me up. Quit being so dramatic.

i agree with you. i think cell phones should be allowed as long as they are off or on silent in your backpack. i'm in high school, & technically we aren't supposed to have cell phones at all but as long as we don't use them in class the teachers don't care if we have them in the halls or whatever.
