I have a fmily name I'd like to use, however I don't know if it is too different to name my son. The name is Oswin. it's my father's middle name and both of my great great garandfather's names. I love the meaning ( friend of God) but not sure about the name.

Oswin would make a great MIDDLE name. Robert Oswin Jones. William Oswin Smith. James Oswin Taylor. As a first name in this day and age, not so much.

I like Oswin, but kids are very self conscious about names and this one does stand out as different. How about using it as a second name with a more common first name.

I love the meaning but I'm not sure of it as a first name. What about a middle name? You mentioned your father and great - great grandfather's name, so it sounds sort of an "old" type of name. I think it would be great for a middle name!

If it flows with the middle name and last name, then what's stopping you?
Personally I think it's to the point where it makes the person distinguishable. When someone says Oswin, they'll know who it is.

The meaning is good but you should consider it as middle name because to be frankly honest with you and not to be mean, that is a name that he could possibly get teased by because it simply doesn't fit in these times as it did with your father and great grandfathers.

Oswin reminds me of ostrich.
I would avoid using the name.
I would go with Owen. It's much more handsome and modern day version of Oswin.

Having the tradition behind the name is nice and the meaning is beautiful but its not really the best name. Maybe change the tradition a little and just name him something that starts with 'O'?

The meaning of it sounds nice.. But i don't really like the name.. My name is Channing and it was my grandfather's middle name and my great grandfather's. Possibley you could make it his middle name if you do not want that to be his first name. And then it could still could be in the family.
